Orange peel texture is a popular, bumpy wall finish resembling an orange's skin, created by spraying thinned joint compound onto walls, making it a durable, cost-effective way to hide imperfections like drywall seams or minor damage, common in new construction and rental properties. It's applied using a spray gun with different nozzles (smaller for finer texture) or aerosol cans, and while it looks similar to a painting error (like on cars), it's intentionally applied for its aesthetic and practical benefits, often called "splatter" or "eggshell".
